Hiii! It’s been a while- the holidays snuck up on me with a vengeance and it seemed like every project I’d signed up for was due around the same time. I spent the weeks in a tired stupor, trying to complete everything I could.
Now I’m laid in bed under a weighted blanket, wearing a weighted hoodie, and eating every snack in the world. Recuperate, rejuvenate, reseed, and get ready for the coming year. I hope you’re all taking some time to refresh, too. Thanks for sticking with me and this little substack.
I wanted to share some things from the past few weeks, and what I’m looking forward to for the future!
Holiday Cards
Had some holiday markets (including my favorite 826LA holiday market) in the lead up to the holidays. I really enjoy adding some sort of hand crafted element to printed cards. I also used my Prixel stamp-machine-printer-thing a LOT this holiday, especially because you can buy extra set-up plates (for easier layering), and more pieces!
When you’re making holiday cards to sell, it can feel a little like an assembly line. You do each part in a step, adding more and more until they’re finally done.
This tree card is a revamp of one I made last year. I printed the background (the blue or peach arch and frame around it), then painted the tree pattern which I cut into triangles. Then, I hand painted each garland, and topped it with a gold sticker. I think they looked great this year, and neater than last year.
I also used my prixel to make a Sonic the Hedgehog card as thanks for some of Grant’s clients this year!
Tiny Painting Bonanza
I did a few tiny painting commissions of course, and I created a tiny Mickey and Minnie for a gallery show at work!
I also made a tiny “Princess Survival Kit” for our white elephant!
(everything in there is about the size of a quarter or less!)
Art Supply end-of-year sales!
I have a few places I like to do some damage at during the end of the year!! I have bought only a few things and have been good, but if you’re looking for some new inspriation, here’s some!
Artsnacks- Artsnacks has recently discontinued most of their subscription boxes, so I think they’re clearing out their warehouse. They have some BALLER stuff, and it’s all 60% off. I have already bought so many of this particular pencil sharpener.
Jetpens- Jetpens rarely has sales, but they have a super fun “black friday” sale til the end of the year, where a lot of black stationary is on sale. Mnemosyne notebooks are my fave- the paper is sooooo smooth.
Stlartsupply- St Louis Art Supply doesn’t even have a sale but I love them, so I include them here. Get their own brand shellac based ink, it’s sick as hell!!!!
2025 Planner
I’m obsessed with my paper planner.
I started with bullet journelling, and now I keep a filofax with a bullet journal element. I just really like the option to rip out pages (so satisfying), and rearrange how I like. I’ve kept the same type of planner for… gosh, almost 10 years? Sometimes I buy printed A5 inserts from etsy, but this year, I got some right from Filofax (I love their new hobonichi-esque layout with calendar on left, notes on the right)
Hope you all had a lovely holiday season. Looking forward to a more regular scheduled substack (continuing my bi-weekly schedule), now that my brain is beginning to start working again!
For your pleasure, please enjoy our cat Luppy climbing the tree- we had no ornaments this year so she could fully eenjoy the experience.
ok love u bye
I feel like you’d love Notebook Stories https://www.notebookstories.com blog about notebooks. Lots of reviews and currently back into Filofax stuff. Seems like something that’s totally your thing!
Love the cards and the princess kit! I think people would absolutely buy those princess kits, if you wanted to sell them. Happy New Year!
